Project Scope
The Ghent Syngas Cluster project aimed at developing and demonstrating new innovative technology to convert syngas, a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen gas, into green chemicals, sustainable fuels and green electricity.
To achieve this, a study was performed to check the technical and economic feasibility to construct a demonstration unit at the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant in Ghent to optimize, scale up and demonstrate this new technology at pilot level. A consortium of different companies was gathered that was to develop and demonstrate the new technology within the Ghent Syngas Cluster in the port of Ghent. The new process has the potential to reduce the carbon dioxide emission considerably, as such counteracting global warming. This technology can broadly be applied and should lead to marketable technology that can be applied worldwide.
